De Blasio Upset with Skelos

Mayor Bill de Blasio has lashed out at Senate Republican Leader Dean Skelos for refusing to allow a vote on his universal pre-k plan.

"It's one thing if Senator Skelos or anyone else opposes our vision," de Blasio said.  "It's one thing if they want to offer an alternative vision.  But not allowing a vote is unacceptable."

De Blasio's plan would raise taxes on those earning at least $500,000 a year to pay for universal pre-k around the city.  The city needs approval from Albany, but Skelos and Governor Andrew Cuomo are against tax hikes.

The mayor said he's not shocked that he and Skelos have differences, but argued "it's quite surprising to me" that he won't allow a vote on the issue.

Despite the opposition, de Blasio will continue fighting for his plan.

"There's a lot of time on the clock and the bottom line is Albany simply must provide us a vote on this issue," he said.
