“For all the haters that stood in my way
I want to thank you today,
For all the people that helped me along the way,
I want to thank you today.”
-- “Thank You”
When Chuck the Triple Threat was a child in eighties Detroit, he traded three Chips Ahoy Cookies for his first record. Everyone in the family caught on to Chuck’s love of hip-hop, buying him old school and the latest hip-hop joints. Soon, he had a huge record collection and it helped that he stole records from his older brothers, who were DJs themselves. Chuck was hustling as a kid.
Music was always part of Chuck’s life from his brothers spinning the latest vinyl to his jazz loving father, “My dad used to listen to Billie Holliday, Miles Davis, and John Coltrane. Those people were always the biggest artists we would listen to in the house,” says Chuck. “He would have me listening to the songs, splitting up the instruments: saxophone, flute, trombone, or stand-up bass. My dad wanted me to hear it for myself.”
It’s no surprise that the boy from a middle class Detroit family would transform into Chuck the Triple Threat: Producer, DJ, and air talent.
In a time where one-hit happenings are birthed from reality shows or Internet videos, Chuck the Triple Threat has been grinding for over ten years in the music industry. “There’s always going to be a lot of struggles, but the biggest part is to see it through and not give up on yourself,” explains Chuck, who first made a name for himself as a DJ at Hampton University in Virginia. After making his artistic footprints from Boston back to his hometown of Detroit, he eventually landed at Power 105 in New York City, which he has been a DJ and air talent for over three years. In each new city, Chuck built his name from scratch and had to do it all over again.
“I like the fact that I was an outsider getting an opportunity to come here and make it in New York City. That is a feather in my hat to say that I started in a small market and I worked my way up.” Chuck, with his production team, The Fire Factory, has assisted on projects that include Quentin Tarantino, Lauryn Hill, and the iconic Aretha Franklin.
Even with his success as a DJ, producer, and air talent, Chuck is ready to solidify his name as the triple threat. “I feel like a 50 Cent record, I’ve been patiently waiting for a track to explode on. All the preparation, meeting the people I needed to meet when I first got here -- not getting calls, sitting up in my house just making tracks all day,” says Chuck. He is anticipating the release of True Stories, an album that will introduce him to the world as not only a DJ and air talent, but an overall artist.
In a time where a new hip-hop artist a week is being ousted for their fake criminal record, Chuck thrives on the authenticity of his music. “There’s nothing on True Stories that’s not real. Saying that you deal drugs to sell records? That’s a thing of the past; people don’t care about that anymore.” Chuck delivers high-content music, devoid of plastic images and contrived scenarios. He isn’t a gangster, “But I do have what they call ‘gangsta’ shit”, explains Chuck. “With Spektrum Music, my label, we’re putting out music that we like. Bottom line, I put out music the fans like.”
The fans have shown their approval of Chuck’s innovative and dynamic sound on the company’s web site,

Chuck’s music manages to open his complex world in a unique way to where any listener can relate, feel, or be inspired. In the infectious “Thank You”, which contains a fitting sample from Aretha Franklin’s “You Make My Life”, Chuck praises the haters and supporters. Haters being all the people who attempted to stand in his way. Supporters being all those who showed unconditional love, one being his father who passed away in 2004. “Everybody has struggles, there is not one person in the world who doesn’t have a struggle, but they struggle on their own level. My music is geared to people who struggle on my level and deal with different things from day to day.”
True Stories runs the gamut from the humble “Thank You” to the aggressive “Do Nothing”. Chuck explains “Do Nothing” with a cool smile, “My crew can handle you, I don’t have to do nothing. I don’t have to do shit because I’m the one that is feeding the team. If I fall, everyone else is pretty much back at square one so I don’t have to ‘Do Nothing’!”
Soon, the whole world will know the power of Chuck the Triple Threat and he deserves it. After over a decade in the industry, Chuck cannot be ignored. The hard-hitting triple threat has paid his dues by climbing the vicious ladder of the industry. In 2009, he is transitioning to the next level, immortalizing his name as thee Triple Threat. Chuck is the real thing, a true story and on his way to monumental success. Join us for the ride.
