Why did you choose to become a teacher?

Becoming a teacher has always been my dream since I was in elementary school. I wanted to become a teacher because to me their is no greater profession in the world.

As a teacher what matters most to you at the end of the day?

Holding my students accountable for learning and making sure they feel loved and motivation is what matters most.

What differences do you think being a male teacher of color makes in the lives of NYC Youth?

Students need to feel represented and they also need someone to relate to. Being a male teacher of color is important but what’s most important is building a strong relationship with them and opening up to them about my experiences being a black male and how I’ve overcome obstacles in mylife.

What would you say to men of color how are thinking about becoming teachers but have not yet made the decision?

Being a teacher takes dedication, compassion, love, strength, and most of all leadership that is empowering and motivating to all students. If you possess those qualities then please join the field of education.
